Car Servicing and General Inspection

What type of car service do I need?

What type of service your car will require will vary depending on both the mileage and age of the car. Car servicing can involve a whole variety of items such as oil and filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs but is not limited to these items.

Depending on age the car may also require a manual or auto transmission fluid replacement, coolant replacement, or brake fluid change. The service intervals for these items will depend on the car's manufacturer. If you are unsure when items need replacing on your car and are in and around the Leighton Buzzard area then feel free to pop in and ask.

Many manufacturers have now opted to have digital service records. We have access to these and can update them for many manufacturers such as VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Mercedes, Mazda, and many more! These will be updated after any service work or additional work such as cambelt replacement is carried out to keep an online record of all repairs.

We also have access to the manufacturer's service schedules so can service your cars at the correct intervals.

Why is car servicing important?

Keeps the engine running optimally

Regularly servicing your car at the correct intervals helps to keep the engine running to its best performance and keep everything lubricated properly with fresh oil and filters. This overall leads to better engine health and can help the engine last a longer period without failure.

It will save money on repairs and breakdowns

Regular servicing includes changing filters such as the fuel filter or air filter and even things such as the poly belt. We have seen several breakdowns which include simple items such as a blocked air or fuel filter or a broken poly belt just due to a lack of maintenance. Keeping all these items changed at regular intervals will help prevent breakdowns which keep the car off the road.

It will find out any other issues with the vehicle

When in for a service the car will be given a full visual inspection to address any other faults with the car and quotes will be provided for repairs needed. It is very common for the car to also need tyres replaced or brakes replaced when being serviced so it helps find these issues before they become a problem.

Need an MOT?

An MOT test differs from service because it is a legal requirement in the UK for every car over 3 years old. This has every part of the car checked over to make sure that it is safe for you to use the vehicle and that it isn't dangerous to use on the road.

An MOT lasts a year from the date that it was originally issued. The following year you can get your MOT done up to just under a month before the previous date and you will still keep the same MOT expiry date from last year, so this gives you plenty of time to get repairs done as needed.

If you are unsure whether your MOT needs doing then a simple check on the gov website by entering your car's registration will tell you when the MOT is due on your vehicle and will also provide you information on advisories on the vehicle's last year's MOT so you know if there is work that needs doing to your car.

We offer Pre-MOT Inspection for vehicles that have their MOTs due. MOTs can also be arranged if needed after servicing the vehicle as this is usually done at the same time for most cases.

We can also complete repairs on vehicles that have failed their MOT recently and need retesting.

Frequently asked questions

How often should my car be serviced?

Servicing schedules differ from manufacturer to manufacturer but it is typically recommended to be every 12000km or every 1 year whichever comes first. Most cars also have service indicators that come on when the service is due and should not be ignored if you haven't done 12000km. It is always best to keep your service history up to date as possible by keeping the service book filled in or by keeping previous invoices as proof of service to protect the value of the car. Most people also get their MOT on their vehicle done at the same time for convenience. Call us Today for Car servicing near Leighton Buzzard.

Can you still service a car that is under warranty?

Most people believe that if your car is under warranty then it has to be serviced at the dealership to protect that but this is untrue. If your car is still under warranty then we can also offer the same servicing schedule the manufacturer would use to make sure that the warranty is not voided by also using the manufacturer's specified parts. With modern vehicles, it is essential to use up-to-standard parts and the correct oil to keep the vehicle running as it should.

Why should I get my vehicle serviced regularly?

Servicing Your vehicle regularly keeps your vehicle running optimally. If regular maintenance is not carried out then this increases the risk of premature wear of the vehicle. A minor issue such as a dirty air filter or a clogged fuel filter could cause issues with the running and affect MPG if left for a prolonged period. Changing all of these service items helps to keep the engine healthy as it is designed to have all of these parts changed which will prolong the engine's life and help your car run properly for years to come.

Another reason to also regularly service your vehicle is that it protects the value of the car. A car is typically a very expensive purchase and having a full-service history will also fetch more for the car if sold in the future as this is usually the first thing buyers look at when buying a second-hand car. If your vehicle is also under warranty then servicing it at the correct intervals protects the warranty of the car.

What is included within a service?

A service can range from just a simple oil and filter change every year and could also include other filters such as an air filter or a pollen filter at recommended service intervals. The car could also need spark plugs changed and brakes serviced to keep them from sticking and causing premature wear.

A basic service can be just an oil and filter change and this will include adjusting tyre pressures, and top-up any fluids that are low such as; brake fluid, coolant, screenwash, and power steering fluid. The car will also be checked over for any other faults with suspension and checks for leaks and repairs will be recommended as needed.

A full service will include all of the same things in a basic service but will also include other filters such as air filters, pollen filters, fuel filters, spark plugs, and other fluids such as transmission fluid, and all of these will be checked and changed when needed. Transmission fluid will also be checked and can be topped up. This could also include brake bleeding.

How much does a car service cost?

A car service can range massively in price depending on the type of car due to the cost of parts mainly. An interim service can start at anywhere around £100+ and a full service can range from anywhere from £180+. These costs will change depending on the make of the vehicle and of course, the amount of services carried out.
